This framed canvas features Warren Harding’s original climbing rack, photographed at the summit of El Capitan after the first ascent of The Nose in 1958. Harding, along with Wayne Merry and George Whitmore, completed the route after 47 days spread across 18 months — a breakthrough effort that ushered in the modern era of big wall climbing.

Harding’s rack showcases the ingenuity of early Yosemite climbers: hand-forged pitons, wooden wedges, and hardware-store gear adapted for unimaginable terrain. It remains one of the most important artifacts in American climbing history.

Printed on premium archival canvas and stretched over a 1.5" frame. Ready to hang.

Your purchase supports the Yosemite Climbing Association, the preservation of Yosemite’s climbing artifacts, and the ongoing work of the Yosemite Climbing Museum.
